Gurgaon was historically inhabited by Hindu people, and in ancient times, it formed part of an extensive kingdom ruled by the Ahir clan. According to historical accounts, it was the village of Guru Dronacharya, who was the teacher of the Kauravas and Pandavas. During Akbar’s reign, Gurugram fell within the administrative regions of Delhi and Agra. As the Mughal Empire began to decline, the region became a battleground between competing powers. By 1803, most of the area came under British rule through the Treaty of Surji-Anjangaon with Sindhia.
